Putting Your Trust In God

Psalm Two

Those who put their trust in God will be blessed. David wrote. "Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!" (Psalm 34:8) In the second psalm we read, "Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him" (Psalms 2:12) Observe the statement, "Blessed are all they that put their trust in him" Our trust in God is part of our spiritual growth. When things are going bad in your life there is something that you can do about it. Put your trust in God. When you are hurting and confused put your trust in God. "Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God." (Psalms 20:7) Put your trust in God in every area of your life and you will be blessed.

When we put our trust in God we recognize, accept and appreciate the Lord. In the second psalm we read, "The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying." (Psalms 2:2) Many stand against the Lord instead of standing for Him. The answer to family problems, personal problems and world problems is found in the words of 1 Kings 8:60-61. "That all the people of the earth may know that the Lord is God, and that there is none else. Let your heart therefore be perfect with the Lord our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments, as at this day." Jesus is Lord, yet mankind insists on following everything else. Please allow Jesus to be Lord or Master in your life.

When we put our trust in God we will recognize His hatred for sin. In the second psalm we read, "Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision." (Psalms 2:1-4) Nothing is worse than dying in our sins. Numbers 27:3 speaks of one who "died in his own sin, and had no sons." Sin is a reproach to any people. (Proverbs 14:34) Sin is lawlessness and it always ends in misery. (1 John 3:4) Without God people sin more and more; their lives become a wreck. Hosea 13:2 says, "And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves."

When we put our trust in God we will appreciate the gift of His Son. In the second psalm we read, "I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee." (Psalms 2:7) These words are quoted in Acts 13:33 and applied to Jesus. "God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee." In the book of Hebrews this statement is also applied to Jesus. (Hebrews 1:5, Hebrews 5:5) We should come before God with deep appreciation for the gift of His precious Son. "Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift." (2 Corinthians 9:15)

When we put our trust in God we will be wise and serve Him without fear. We read in the second psalm, "Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling." (Psalms 2:10-11) In the 100th Psalm we read, "Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing." (Psalm 100:2) In Deuteronomy 10:12 we read, "And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul." You are a mighty force for good. Your influence can change the world for good if you will go forth and serve God!

If a person is wrong about God and about His Son, Jesus Christ, he is wrong about salvation. Do you have a living faith that Jesus Christ is the Son of God? If so it is time to become a Christian now! To become a Christian you must hear the gospel (Romans 10:17), believe in Jesus (John 8:24), repent of sins (Acts 17:30), confess Christ as Lord (Acts 8:37), and be baptized to be saved. (1 Peter 3:21) After baptism follow Jesus in faithfulness as He leads you home to heaven. (Revelation 2:10)
