See That The Lord Is Good

Psalm Thirty Four

"I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad. O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together. I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing. Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD. What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken. Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate. The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate." (Psalm 34:1-22)

Psalm 34 is a Psalm giving honor to God. David knew the Lord to be good; therefore he would continually praise Him. His service to God would be rendered with all of his heart. Let us magnify the Lord and exalt His name together. David called upon the Lord for help and He heard him and saved him from all his fears. In answer to prayer the Lord saves His people and delivers them from trouble. If there is any doubt in your mind just "Taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him." The Lord provides for those who honor Him. We learn the fear of the Lord by our words and actions. We must do our best to do good instead of evil and try our best to live at peace. God rescues His people but wipes the evil away. "The LORD saves the souls of His servants.”

The Lord is good -- Psalm 34:1-10: Praise would flow from David's mouth continually for the Lord. David would boast but only in the Lord. He would magnify the Lord and he encouraged others to exalt the Lord with him. In this brief section David gave two of the great Bible statements. He said, "I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears." (Psalm 34:4) Just a few verses later the challenge was, "O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him." (Psalm 34:8)

Learning to fear the Lord -- Psalm 34:11-17: The fear of the Lord is something to be taught and learned; it is something to be desired and loved. Good days come when we fear the Lord. Those who fear the lord must guard and protect their speech. The fear of the Lord likewise means that we must stay away from evil and do good. We must seek peace and pursue it. Remember that "The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry." (Psalm 34:15)

Learning the value of a subdued heart -- Psalm 34:18-22: Those who fear God will have a spirit that is truly humbled and submissive under the hand of God. They are very aware of their own sins. Those who realize how good God is will be submissive to His will. David said it this way, "The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit." (Psalm 34:18) The righteous have many troubles but the Lord delivers them. The real safety for the Christian is that his soul is anchored in his faith, hope and love for God no matter what the outward circumstances might be. In John 19:36 the words, "He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken" was also applied to Jesus. Those who serve God are redeemed by the power of the blood of Jesus. Those who trust Him will never be desolate.

Let us learn the value of a righteous life. We must put our trust in God and be righteous by means of salvation through the blood of Jesus. Please accept God's wonderful good news that Jesus died for your sins. Will you be baptized into Christ to put on Christ so that your sins can be forgiven by His blood? "For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ." (Galatians 3:26-27) Believers contact Christ's saving blood by being baptized into His death. Those who become children of God should live their lives recognizing that our God is good.
